You can transfer your Fixed Asset Manager (FAM) files from one computer to another by backing them up first, then restoring them.
Backing up the Fixed Asset Manager (FAM) files:
- Go to the computer that already has the Fixed Asset Manager client files and launch Fixed Asset Manager.
- Click on the File menu and choose Backup. Click OK to the "All asset information is synchronized..." message.
-
In the Backup window, choose a folder to save the backup files in (network drive, desktop, USB drive) and then click Backup.
-
Once the backup is complete, you will have a folder with some numbers in it. This is the Fixed Asset Manager backup.
Note: You may have a different set of numbers than the image above, but each backup starts with an { and has a set of numbers after it.
Restoring Fixed Asset Manager (FAM) files:
- Go to the hosted QuickBooks company file, and then open Fixed Asset Manager.
-
When you launch Fixed Asset Manager on the other computer, you may see this screen:
Make sure to select Restore a current year QuickBooks Fixed Asset Manager client file.
Note: If you do not see this screen, and Fixed Asset Manager does open up to your client, but it is not up to date, then you will need to choose the File menu and click Restore. After that, continue with these steps.
-
Next, make sure to select the root of the drive or folder that you saved the backup in. For example, lets say we saved the backup in a folder on the desktop called New Folder. You would choose New Folder, not the {9990001 folder. Then click OK and choose Restore.
If the Fixed Asset Manager files were transferred to another computer without the original folder, recreate the folder first then place the Fixed Asset Manager files in that folder.
Determine the name of the folder by looking at the name of the files. Create a new folder with a left curly bracket followed by the first 7 numbers. Save or move the three F90 files into your new folder.Using the example above, create a new folder called {9990001 based on the file name of 9990001!.F90 and then place the files in that folder.
